FAQS

Where are you located?

We are in Northfield, MA. We are available by appointment only for wholesale tree pickup during the pick-up windows (Early Spring and Late Fall).

What do you sell?

We sell bare root trees, available for delivery in Late Spring or Early Fall. Here are the trees we offer. We do not sell potted trees.

We are a small team, so it’s most cost effective for us to sell trees in the bundle sizes listed on the website. Sorting, bagging, and counting the trees is labor intensive.

Where can I pick up trees if I selected “Local Pickup” ?

Local pick up is available ONLY in in Northfield, MA. We cannot transport trees anywhere else in the area to bring them to you. We will let you know when the trees you ordered are ready for pick up and we can coordinate a time for you to come get them. If you cannot come get your trees from Northfield, MA, then you can chose for us to ship them to you.

When will the trees be ready for pick-up/ delivery?

The TLDR: Early Spring and Late Fall, as conditions allow. We cannot guarantee a date but you can let us know if you have a request for later or earlier in the season and we can consider that request.

During digging season we are at the mercy of the weather and field conditions. We dig as soon and as efficiently as possible. Once we have trees out of the ground, sorted so that you get the best trees, and packed, and in the mail we will notify you. In spring there can be snow on the ground through March. Spring website orders can be ready for pick-up and shipping early-mid April. We will update the website to indicate when we are shipping trees and send you tracking info when we have your trees in the mail. We are a very small team doing very many things and working very hard to grow high-quality trees. Thanks for your patience, your order, and for supporting this important work!

Can I visit the farm?

We are very happy that you are excited about our work. We wish we could accommodate more visitors, alas we are almost constantly busy growing trees and conducting research. You can always ask, but the odds are we are hard at work and unavailable for a visit. If you would like to learn more about our work, we recommend checking out the “Learn” page and the resource-laden websites of some of our amazing peers and collaborators, such as Breadtree, Trees for Graziers, Hudson Valley Farm Hub, and The Savanna Institute.

How do I volunteer or work-trade?

Depending on the season, we have volunteer and work trade opportunities. In the Spring and Summer, if you have farming experience and are skilled at plant ID, we always need weeding help in the nursery. Farming is often a solo-endeavor and although there are sometimes small groups to work with, work-trade and volunteer is a good fit for people who are self directed and can work independently. Feel free to inquire for more details or to set up a time to come. Because our work is governed by the weather and the unpredictable movements of nature, we may not always have availability.

Do you offer discounts or special deals?

All of our trees are discounted! We have set up our nursery to offer trees at the lowest prices possible and all of our bundles are bulk-priced. We are a non-chemical, whole-sale operation and it’s a labor of love. We do offer tiered bulk discounts, which are incorporated into the website prices. If you wish to buy many hundreds of trees, please get in touch or see our bulk price sheet.

Can you help me figure out what to plant?

We can do our best to recommend trees based on your context. Each listing has growing information. We recommend doing some googling and spending a little time researching your planting. A useful resource for embarking on a tree planting is This Handbook From Trees for Graziers. If you would like to hire us for a consultation, please reach out.

When should I plant my trees?

People who buy trees from us plant in Fall or Spring. You are the steward of the land where you are planting, so ultimately it is your call when to plant. If you want to order in Fall and heal the trees in until Spring, you can do that.
